On May 22nd, our fellow Seniors David Martinez and Elisa Cano received the 2nd annual Milinda Parra and Justin Walker Memorial Scholarship. Both David and Elisa have memories and moments with both Justin and Milinda. And they both would like to share their thoughts on receiving this award.
“The award is for being a good athlete in my respective sports but also for being a good student. Receiving this award means so much to me. I knew Justin since we were in elementary school and was devastated when I heard the news. He was my brother, we had been playing basketball together for almost 9 years.” -David Martinez (12)“The award was a memorial scholarship representing Justin Walker and Milinda Parra. I will use the money that I received for my schooling. I feel blessed and it was such an honor to apply and win this scholarship. I feel really good about myself inside and out winning this scholarship. To me applying for this scholarship was really about showing how much memories mean and how much I value life and sharing an experience with them. Memories with Justin playing coed teams in the summer. Justin and I were always on the opposite teams. But no matter what at the end, we were the best of friends. Milinda a memory I will not forget was meeting her for the first time at CC Sparks basketball practice and ever since then hanging out with her every day.” – Elisa Cano (12)
