My Neighbor Totoro is an 1988 animated film from acclaimed director Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli. It is about a school girl, Staskue and sister Mei as they live with their father in the country side in Japan. In this setting they are waiting for their mom to recover from an illness. When Mei sees Totoro, no one believes her, but eventually Staskue realizes Totoro is real and they go on an adventure with Totoro. This has beautiful animation that holds well 30 years later. The story is very fun and does get emotional at times. Hayao is regarded as the Japanese equivalent of Walt Disney. If you like animated movies, I would recommend this and a few other Ghabli titles.
