Last Minute Party Treat!

Your heart is racing. Sweat rains from your forehead. Your wide eyes dart back and forth, up and down, searching for what you can make. The clock is ticking; not much time is left. You picture it now: your niece hates you for not bringing a snack to her birthday party. All the adults snicker at you as they place their beautiful dishes down. The party is ruined. Out of the corner of your eye you spot white chocolate and pretzels. That is it: chocolate covered pretzels.

Throwing a glass cup that has part of a chocolate bar in it, you toss it in the microwave for a couple minutes, then grab wax paper and put in on the counter. You stir the chocolate to keep it from burning, shove it back in the microwave and then rip open the bag of pretzels. After taking the chocolate out you dip the pretzels in the cup and set them on the wax paper.

Alexis Vences, junior, whose favorite party food to make is chocolate covered pretzels, said “you can use any kind of chocolate. It’s also good with sprinkles on top.”

Making sure the chocolate doesn’t stiffen up you keep stirring it as you put on a second layer.

“If your chocolate does stiffen up, put it back in the microwave for ten seconds,” says Alexis.

You put the pretzels in the refrigerator to chill and then your heart sinks. You want your niece to enjoy a nice drink with her chocolatey snack. A bottle of root beer sits on your table and you realize that you have vanilla ice cream in your freezer.

You see it now; the highlight of the party. The adults hate you for giving their kids a sugar rush, but all the children wait in line to get a pretzel and a nice cold root beer float.

Making one “only takes thirty seconds,” said Adrian Peralta, junior.

Thanks to your quick thinking, your niece will be delighted with the snack you made for her party. The only problem is now everybody wants some.
