Monday night, April 9th, our Panthers took a huge win against Mission Prep in three sets: 25-23, 25-19, and 25-16. It was a great game to watch but according to Coach Ralph and our viewers our team still has a lot to show on the court. Coach Ralph explained that they only gave him an “appetizer” of what they can do but he expects a full meal and even dessert! After attending their preseason and league games we can see their true potential to make it to CIF. Come support our Panthers tonight at St. Joes as they take on the Knights. All the fun begins at 5:30. Who knows? Maybe we will get dessert!
“Tonight’s win is a win, but as for how the team performed there were a lot of mistakes that certainly shouldn’t have happened. But that’s the great part of Volleyball. You learn from your mistakes so you don’t make them again. One of our greatest strengths as a team is how close our team is this year. Each guy communicates with one another and respects one another which is great for a coach! A major weakness we have is being vocal. Communicating on the court and during a game. I wouldn’t say I am completely satisfied with our teams performance tonight. They kind of just gave me an appetizer of what they can do. I want the full meal plus dessert if you know what I mean. I think my favorite part about tonight’s game is when most of the seniors were actually benched and it allowed them to see how a game really works when no one is communicating on the court during plays. It really opened their eyes and hopefully will make them talk more on the court. We are completely ready and willing to take on this second half of our season. A little bitter sweet for the seniors and I as they are beginning to play their last games. It’s actually bitter sweet for the entire team because next season we won’t be playing most of these schools anymore due to the new league alignment so we’re just trying to enjoy every last game.” -Head Coach Ralph Quintana
“I feel like I performed pretty good tonight, my teammates really helped me out today. I feel the team performed great overall we just have to fix a few things. The weaknesses we need to work on after tonight is our talking and consistency. Our strengths are our scrappiness and never give up attitude. I’m satisfied with the way the team played, but there’s always room to improve. My favorite part was probably the first kill Kevin got off my set. I’m both excited and ready, we’re all just hoping for a spot in CIF. The only thing I want to do is thank my coaches and teammates for a good game.” -Angel Gonzalez (12)
“After tonight’s game I feel like I played a really good game, but can improve a lot more. I feel like my team did good in tonight’s game. I feel like our team needs to work more on passing and work more on our plays so we can come out stronger on our next game. I’m satisfied with how my team played it’s just little things we have to work on during practice. I am ready to take on the rest of the season because it’s my last year and I would like to look back at what I’ve accomplished in my High school years. I would like to say that next year for the up coming varsity players they are going to want every moment on the volleyball court. There will be competition and the coaches like a player who shows that they really want playing time on the court not just people who won’t give there 100% every time they practice or go into a game” -Armando Tamayo (12)
“I feel like I performed good compared to previous games, and I felt like my hits were good. I got 2 kills wished it could’ve been more but I went out there and did my job. As a team we did really good it was a close game in the beginning but we were able to pull through and get the win. I feel like we need to go in every game with a positive mindset no matter who we play we got a lot of good hitter servers so that helps a lot we just need to communicate a lot more on the court. I’m satisfied on how we played we played against a team who haven’t been so lucky throughout their season but it was a good game for us to practice new things and we were able to run some plays so I’m satisfied. My favorite part of this game is when Nick served. He usually floats them over but he came out aggressive with his serves and was able to get a couple aces which was exciting to see him get comfortable and be aggressive with his serves. I’m ready for the rest of the season we’re fighting are hardest to make sure we get a play off spot or even make it to CIF.” -Miguel Tamayo (11)
“Tonight was a really good game for the Panthers. We used all of our skills from communicating to running plays to shut out the other team. Something we learned about today’s game was how to come back as a team after a bad or good point. I am extremely happy with how the team played overall, and I hope we relief the potential we have within.” -Miguel Perez Esparza (10)
