Andrea Pasillas Goes to 2nd Round
The 2nd round of the student speaker contest was held at the Lion’s club in Orcutt. Our PVHS student Andrea Pasillas made the 2nd round and is now moving onto the 3rd round. For information about Round 1 check out this story: https://pvhspanthertales.org/5905/showcase/student-speaker-contest/
“The second round of the student speaker competition was nerve-wrecking. As soon as I walked in I thought I was going to lose because my opponents were ready to go and I wasn’t. I had memorized my speech to the best of my ability, but still had trouble perfecting it. Once I was called upon, I started off great, but slowly lost the words to my speech. I had to integrate and make up some parts on the spot because I was so nervous I had forgotten parts of my speech. In the end, when they announced I had won the 2nd round, I was shocked and couldn’t believe it. I was and still am immensely grateful to continue in the competition! The topic is the same and you keep presenting your speech at every level, what matters is how great of a public speaker you are, hence the “student speaker competition” title. Around 20 people were in attendance. I had 2 weeks to prepare for my speech, in terms of making it better and memorizing a 7 minute speech. I will compete in the 3rd round very soon and can’t wait to participate!” Andrea Pasillas (12)
