Teacher Spotlight: Mr. Magana

Q: How many years have you been teaching?
“I’ve been teaching for about 14 years.”
Q: How do you like Pioneer Valley?
“I really enjoy working at Pioneer Valley.”
Q: What subjects do you teach?
“I teach math. Right now, I’m teaching geometry and algebra 2.”
Q: Do you or have you coached any sports?
“No, I have not coached any sports.”
Q: Did you think about any other careers before becoming a teacher?
“Yes I did, I wanted to be an industrial engineer. I was thinking about doing that, then I ended up teaching once I started tutoring at Alan Hancock College, which is where I got into teaching.”
Q: What is one of your hidden talents?
“I’m pretty good at carpentry”
Q: Do you have any hobbies?
“I have two kids, so I don’t have a lot of time for hobbies. I work with wood a lot at home, trying to build stuff with wood.”
Q: Have you had any embarrassing moments as a teacher?
“Yes, I know I have, but I can’t think of any in particular”
Q: What’s the best thing about being a teacher?
“The best part is helping students, and the most rewarding part is seeing some students later on in their own careers and such.”
