Five students from PV had the opportunity to spend an entire week in Washington DC learning about politics, current events, and visiting museums. They also had the opportunity to meet and talk to Salud Carbajal and some of the workers that work directly with Dianne Feinstein and Kamala Harris. These were their experiences while on this trip:
Honestly the most memorable moment was when we met our representatives and we made our senator, Salud Carbajal cry, he showed his emotional side. That made me realize that he cares for others. I would recommend this trip to other students in the migrant program because it is a great experience and has a great impact on anyone. If I could go again I would because there’s a lot of information I wasn’t able to observe. I would visit the Holocaust museum again because this museum got me emotional and it had an important purpose to show the world what happened years ago. – Kevin Gonzalez (12)
I really enjoyed this trip to Washington DC. I recommend for students in the migrant program to attend this trip to Washington DC because you learn more by experience rather than being told about how it is in DC. I would visit again because the environment is a lot different than in Santa Maria. I enjoyed this trip because I got to meet lots of different people and was able to learn about their political perspectives and beliefs on certain topics. My favorite landmark was the botanical gardens because there were different plants from all around the world. – Teresa Gonzalez
I did enjoy the Close-up Washington DC trip, I was able to meet people from other states and even people from my own hometown that I didn’t know. The most memorable day for me was the day I got to meet Salud Carbajal, he was really inspiring. I feel like if you set your mind to something anything is possible. I would honestly recommend this trip to other students in the migrant program, it really helps you become more social and you see what others are concerned about. If I had the opportunity to attend again, I would definitely go. I would like to visit Washington DC and the Holocaust museum again. – Alejandra Lopez (10)
