Cell Phone Addiction?

You probably have seen the posters put up around campus saying ”Coming Soon Phone-Free Friday” and phrases as such. But it brings up a point in our society: have we in some ways lost the way we connect with each other? Research shows that in cell phone addiction, one out of two teens are addicted to their phone. 77 percent of teens have argued with their parents over their usage to the point where some people can’t last one single day without their phone. Throughout next week, Ms.Walter’s third period class will be doing all lunch rallies either with information, shouting out people for being positive on social media, and much more.

Yes, they may help in some ways but I think people will always be saying and doing not such good things on their phones using either Twitter or Instagram. My sister was threatened to be beat up at school by a person she once she considered a friend. She didn’t get beat up but she continued to get bullied and the school didn’t really do anything. What I’m saying is: yes some people will say “I’ll stop,” but in reality, some don’t.

”I hope that our students will become aware of how the use of cell phones has affected how we interact with others and how negativity in social media is affecting society. I am not sure if there is blame that can be placed on any one specifically. The technology is advancing almost faster than we can keep up, and it is not realistic to expect people to NOT use it to their full advantage. I do however, think the lack of one-to-one contact allows more negativity. People will post and say things on social media that they would never do or say in face to face conversation. If our students can have one day without their phones, it can prove to them and others that personal communication is still important in society today.” Ms.Walters

”It’s better to get off cell phones and be more social with people rather than on ”social media” which isn’t really being social other than liking your friend’s dinner updates or where people are at any given moment. It sucks that the only people who interact with me are my teachers and my assistant. My message to people is to be nicer and polite to everyone and be more open with themselves around people who do care.” Gabriel  Zambrano (12)
