Boys Varsity Hoops First look at CIF

Boys+Varsity+Hoops+First+look+at+CIF

Yesterday our Boys Basketball team traveled to Ventura College to experience their first ever CIF game. Our Boys played hard and didn’t let their nerves get to them. Our very own PV students wanted to show their support and also traveled to Ventura to cheer on our boys with everything they had. Although we didn’t win, there are many highlights from the PV eight clap, a Technical, and just great Basketball. The boys played amazing and this will be an experience they will never forget. Congratulations on making history!

“The past five years we have been struggling and working very hard to change the culture of boys basketball at PVHS from one that was non-competitive and just plain physically over matched to one that could compete and help to instill pride on the campus.  This was really the first group that was physically skilled enough to compete night in and night out on a regular basis in the PAC 8.  In order to turn the corner and begin to create the culture necessary to achieve consistent success there needs to be a break through season and for that to happen their needs to be a break through senior class.  This class of 5 should be commended for their effort, attitude, and diligence in trying their best to do all that was asked of them.

We have a decent Junior class and an outstanding sophomore class to build upon for our future.  We move to the Central Section next year and into the newly formed CCAA with its 2 leagues the Mountain and the Ocean.  Five and four years ago we won 1 PAC 8 game each year and three years ago we won 2.  Last year we won 4 and this year we won 7 and in a vote of placement for next year’s initial leagues in the new association the boys basketball team was voted to be placed in the upper league 13-0 (by association ADs), and deservedly so.  That is the legacy that this senior class will leave behind.  I know that they, and I, have really appreciated the support of the PVHS campus.” -Coach Lanthier
