Day Without Immigrants Boycott

“A Day Without Immigrants” was a protest and boycott that took place on February 16, 2017, to demonstrate the importance of immigration, and to protest President Donald Trump’s plans to build a border wall and to potentially deport millions of immigrants. Recently, there has been a lot of jazz about this even happening again this year along with a large amount of people going on strike to stand up for their beliefs. This week, I interviewed people about their own opinion on attending/ not attending school tomorrow along with standing up for what’s right.

Q: Will you be attending school the day of the boycott? Do you believe this movement is necessary? What are your thoughts/opinions on trump?

A: “I will be attending school the day of the boycott only because I have nothing else better to do on the day of the event. I really don’t think this event/movement is necessary because it’s only going to cause tension, not only in the town but across the U.S. In my opinion, Trump should stay out of everyone’s business and really think about the real problems within the U.S.” – Teresita Porch (11)

Q: Will you be attending school the day of the boycott? Do you believe this movement is necessary? What are your thoughts/opinions on trump?

A: “I might or might not be attending school on the day of the boycott because I really don’t want to miss school because I have a lot of work to do. I don’t want to come to school because of my culture. My grandparents, as well as my other family members, are immigrants so I know their struggles. I think this movement is necessary because it shows how much the immigrants help in America. My thoughts on Trump is that he’s very ignorant, and really needs to think about what he says and does.” -Angel Fernandez (10)

Q: Will you be attending school the day of the boycott? Do you believe this movement is necessary? What are your thoughts/opinions on trump?

A: “Yes I’ll be attending school. I was born in the Philippines so I can see where every one comes from as immigrants. I don’t think this movement is necessary because it doesn’t really affect me, my family has done well for us so to this movement can go either way. My thoughts and opinions on Trump are just like everyone’s, I don’t think he’s fit to manage our country.” -Ladie Ramirez (9)
