Girls Beach Volleyball Club

Girls volleyball has gotten the opportunity to start a Beach Volleyball Club. Most of the local schools want to join in on Beach volleyball so they are creating a Central Coast Beach Volleyball League. As of right now we have a club because the league has not yet formed and before making the league the schools have to make sure the girls are committed on joining this new league. Beach volleyball would tremendously help the indoor volleyball players they will be stronger and more athletic then ever before, especially for the girls that don’t play club volleyball. As of right now Coach Doyle is only asking that returning volleyball players join the club because there is only a certain amount of girls she can take at the moment but when the league is formed hopefully next year there will be spots for non returning volleyball players if they make the team. Adding a new sport to spring could greatly increase the amount of athletes playing during the spring because beach volleyball is a growing sport and will become very popular and competitive.

Q: How were you able to start the club?

A: ” Morro Bay put in beach volleyball courts on their campus. Both Righetti and Morro Bay have been dabbling in beach volleyball for a few years, they have been playing in The Channel League which is Santa Barbra and all the big school that are very strong in every category of volleyball. Morro Bay just kept getting creamed because they were new to the sport while the schools they played had been playing for years. So the Morro Bay coach wanted to put together a league so this year we are a club until we can be get into our Central Coast League. In the soon to be league there will be PV, RHS, SJHS, NHS, SMHS, MBHS, AJHS all showed interest in joining the league. There has been talk of putting in a couple courts here, we just need to find the space for it. I’m super stoked because it is the fastest growing women’s college sport so its just another avenue for our women to get better and kind of find their niche. It will also help our indoor game a lot as far as strengthening their legs and being more aware of the court because there is only two girls on the court and learning their shots reading where their defense is at and hitting where there not. There volleyball IQ is going to skyrocket and they are only going to get better.”

q: Are you excited to coach another sport?

A:  ” Yes its nice being outside  in the sun and then some of our scrimmages and tournaments will be at Pismo and you can’t beat the beach its my happy place so I’m super stoked. I had an interest meeting and 20 players came out and it was really cool to see. We have had one practice and its kind of hard to get everyone together because a lot of the girls are in other sports. We are just trying to figure out a schedule that works for every one. We’ll have tournaments on Saturdays and mid week scrimmages if we have enough people. Its really just for fun and getting them to play and once we get in a league it will become more competitive.”

Q: how do you think it will improve PVs indoor volleyball game?

A: “I think its going to correlate well, our Defense is going to be faster and they are going to have quicker reaction time just because moving in the sand you feel like a sloth. Its going to strengthen there agility muscles its going to help our vertical tremendously. Overall its going to give us stronger legs and a strong volleyball IQ that is the most important because we don’t have a lot of girls playing club so they are lacking in that Volleyball IQ but as soon as its just the two of them on the court they are going to have to figure it out. its going to help a lot indoor finding the open spots communicating with each other cause its just the two of them out there on a big court.” – Coach Doyle
