Eco Service Club

Eco Service club was started last year and will be in it’s way to making a big difference to the world. With that in mind, the club will start with giving knowledge about how we can save the environment. This all started with a passion for nature and the concern for the state of our environment.

Naomi Mau (11th grade) (president): I’ve had a background with nature. Both sets of my grandparents had a love for gardening and for nature in general and fortunately passed that on to me. I started the club to show people that the Earth is a beautiful place and can be kept that way starting from singular individuals. Humans rely on the Earth. It’s time for us to give back to the Earth. We are planning community service projects; beginning with one end of Santa Maria to another, not just public parks or beaches. Additionally, if the people in charge give us a green light, we hope to integrate both compost bins and recycling bins (specifically for cans and bottles) around campus. The most important message we hope to send to students is that every individual truly matters in this movement. Cumulative small acts of kindness towards the Earth add up.

Ramses Valencia (11th grade) (publicist): “This club means a lot to me, it’s a great opportunity for me to give back some good to the amazing earth that we live on.  I joined the club to help out in the community and on campus. Most important, I joined to make a difference and make the world a better place by finding new ways to clean the earth and recycle items. People should join to raise awareness of what’s happening to the earth today and spread ideas on how we can help save our oceans, forests, and lakes.”

Julia Vargas (11th grade) (Vice President): 1) This club has opened my eyes up to seeing how affected the environment is by small things like throwing away plastic bottles instead of recycling them. 2) My friend [Naomi Mau] showed me her idea and I thought it was really interesting, so I decided to join. 3) This club is helpful to earn volunteer hours, good people, and it’s a fun way to learn about conserving the earth’s resources.

Ms. Baines (advisor): its purpose is one that I’ve always believed in, to promote general awareness of environmental issues. Students should join if they share the interest of saving environmental health.

Ms Leornas: it’s going to give students the opportunity to give service to the school and educate students about compost. To become more aware how to take care of their Mother Earth with in their own community.
